Convened
by Floating World at the exhibition Unfolding
the Archive
at the F.E. McWilliam Gallery and Studio
The conversation was held in a round table format and participants were invited to make recordings on the paper tablecloth. What follows are tracings of that discussion...
The
Artist’s Book in the digital age > audience reach > tactile
and more unique (the paper book) Versus ‘virtual / digital’ (more
widely distributed and easily accessed)….. (democratisation)
artists books are interactive and affordable….. digital access
democratises….. If I’m not part of the digital world, do I still
exist? ….. Remoteness is reinforced through language… the gallery
is always going to be associated with permissions/authority.....
Challenge for artists to be sophisticated with humour and not be
trivialised….. handling the artist book. Relating to it more.
Touch>Sight….. To hold is to possess – if only temporary…..
the Art World is a scary place. It frightens me at times...still…..
I don’t know much about art, but I know what I like… And I know I
don’t like art….. working towards aspirations…
